墓志铭 ——悼念郭鹤龄（1923-1953）

在这无碑的墓里你躺着，同志
雨水不久将把坟冢夷平
而你也将为蛆虫所食
但我们不会为你的离去而哭泣

我们将不哭泣，即便一滴眼泪
或低下我们的头，或捶打我们的胸
因为你已完满度过一生
不会因耻于懦夫般的过去而凋谢

你只有一次生命
那又是你所最为珍惜的
你已度过了它，未经连年的折磨
既非漫无目的，亦非庸碌而过

如今同志，你已消逝离去
你引领的手已从我们之中抽离
当斗争中想起你时
在那森林深处，你的英灵
将骄傲地告诉世人：
“他把整个生命和力量都献给了
世上最崇高的事业
——为了全人类的解放。”

by James Puthucheary (1925—1999)

Lie here comrade in this unstoned tomb
The rains shall soon level the earthen mound
And you be food for maggots and worms
But we will not weep that you are gone .

We will not weep, not even a drop
Or hang our heads down or beat our breasts
For you have lived your life in full, not
Seared by the shame of a cowardly past.

You had only life to live and once
That one life was your dearest possession
You have lived it without years of torture
Of purposeless life or of trivial past.

Now comrade that you are dead and gone
And your guiding hand from us withdrawn
When amidst struggle your memory recall
In the jungle, to all with pride shall tell
“All his life and strength was given
To the first cause in the world —
The liberation of mankind.”

为配合《郭鹤年自传》的出版，谨此附上一首悼念郭鹤年二哥—郭鹤龄（William Kuok Hock Ling，1923-1953）的诗词，题为《墓志铭——悼念郭鹤龄》，以飨读者。郭鹤龄为马共著名人物，1953年遭（英殖民军）狙击牺牲（于彭亨森林）。亿万富豪郭鹤年曾透露，要不是受兄长和母亲的影响，他可能只是一个注重物质的资产阶级。他说：“当我受物质引诱时，我就会想起兄长郭鹤龄的遭遇，他为弱势群体献出了宝贵生命”。

此诗为詹姆斯普图查里（James Puthucheary，1925-1999）为了纪念已故郭鹤龄所写。郭鹤龄是他的同窗兼儿时玩伴及政治上的伙伴。原诗收录在《没有懦弱过去》，后也收录在新加坡出版的《我们的思想是自由的》（Our Thoughts Are Free: Poems and Prose On Imprisonment and Exile，2009），由Tan Jing Quee, Teo Soh Lung, Koh Kay Yew所编。

作者普图查里为一名左翼经济学家、律师、工会主义者。他的著作有《马来亚经济的拥有权与控制》（Ownership and Control in the Malayan Economy，1960）。普图查里逝世隔年，著名经济学家佐摩（KS Jomo)及普图查里的弟弟多米尼克（Dominic Puthucheary），联合编辑《没有懦弱过去》（No Cowardly Past: James J. Puthucheary : Writings, Poems, Commentaries，1998），书中收集普图查里生前的作品，后来于2010年再版。郭鹤龄，为亿万富豪郭鹤年的已故兄长，为马来亚民主联盟（Malayan Democratic Union）创党人，1945年左右加入马共，曾担任宣传主任，1948年走入森林，1953年8月在森美兰与彭亨交界遭英军伏击，享年30岁。最近，郭鹤年在其自传中提到郭鹤龄的典故，并对二哥挺身为工人付出赞誉有加。
